Winter in Afghanistan means hardship for many, but it also has it's own charm: the sky turns blue, smog disappeares, the mountain ranges that embrace Kabul all of a sudden appear out of the usual smog, water in the river washes away the usual dirt, children and adults (including my staff members) use free time in between work and school to have a quick snowball fight... It's strange, but winter also seems to bring some normality into town, besides the hardship it brings along for so many.
After two years of life in Somaliland and over seven years on and off between Austria, Italy, and East Africa, I am now calling Kabul my home. Moving to a new continent was a big and not easy step for me, but I am glad that I took the courage to leave my cosy nest in East Africa to discover new places and to meet new people. And of course, to start a new blog.
New blog, same objective: convincing all of you that life in places like Kabul is more than just misery, and that places like this are just so much more fascinating than how the media presents them...
